Struggling with Neuropsychiatric Symptoms of Lupus

I'm wondering if anyone else is struggling with the neuropsychiatric symptoms of lupus that I am? I've always struggled with depression but it's only since I've gotten sick that I've had these bipolar type symptoms (hypomania, deep depressions) and the information given to me by my medical team said lupus can cause it. That and the memory loss and tics.

I’ve dealt with depression for years but it’s definitely gotten worse since I was diagnosed with SLE. My mood swings were off the charts as well.

My lupus symptoms started with these types of symptoms. I experienced being in a manic state that turned into a deep depression. I also had memory loss, migraines and light sensitivity. In general my whole mood became off as well. I felt like a high dose of steroids was the only thing that brought me out of this fog. I tried other routes of treatment but didn’t have much luck.

Not exactly what you described, but yes my mental health and cognitive ability have suffered since diagnosis. I actually found a neuropsychologist who specializes in how the brain copes with chronic pain and it’s amazing! I highly recommend finding one if you can. However, because this is an emerging field, it’s not always easy to find these therapists, so the most important thing is just finding a good mental health practitioner who can guide you.

I struggle a lot with memory loss/brain fog. I have dealt with depression for almost 20 years and has recently gotten worse. I started experiencing mood swings recently as well. I’m on Duloxetine for both depression and fibromyalgia and it’s helping but I still don’t know how to deal with my mood swings and not sure if it’s related to lupus, depression or the medication making me moody.
