Differentiating POTS and MCAS Episodes

How do you guys differentiate a POTS episode from an MCAS episode/attack? They both cause elevated heart rate, dizziness, faintness, cold hands, nausea, GI issues, headache, chest pain and so many other similar symptoms. Thanks in advance 🤍

My MCAS flairs mimic HyperPOTS but surprisingly my actual POTS isn’t HyperPOTS. So if my blood pressure also skyrockets, for me it’s MCAS. My cardiologist is very versed on MCAS and POTS and he even has a hard time distinguishing the two since MCAS patients are more likely to have HyperPOTS. My POTS is likely secondary to EDS and Chiari Malformation.

thank you. It’s quite fortunate you have a cardiologist well versed in these conditions, im still struggling so much finding providers that I don’t have to teach things to.

with MCAS i get more allergy symptoms of tight chest and congestion and itchiness; hives are a big tell too. POTS is more lightheaded for me!
