Struggling with ADHD Medication

i can't tell if my adhd meds are actually working. it feels like they're doing something but i can't verbalize it? i'm still not able to get homework and stuff done though cuz i have classes that go until 3:30-4:30 pm and sometimes rehearsal from 6-8 pm and after my classes i'm exhausted and just want free time. i'm on the highest dose of concerta right now and this is the second med i've tried and i don't want to have to keep trying new meds 😭

I was having this problem with my Adderall XR recently. I take it before work (usually around 7:30), but it starts to wear off midday. My psychiatrist prescribed me a 10mg IR (which I usually only take half of anyway) that I take anywhere between 12 and 2, and that is making a huge difference. I also noticed making sure I eat with my meds makes a big difference. I have little to no appetite, so it’s usually something small (I really like the soft baked Belvita breakfast biscuits), but at least it’s something. And I upped my water intake. Those three things have really helped for me. Maybe suggest a similar thing to your doctor?? I’m not familiar with Concerta so I don’t know if the have XR and IR formulas, but it can’t hurt to talk to them about these issues.

@soupgoblin yeah i wonder if immediate release would work better or not. i know what i'm on now wears off at night cuz i felt side effects when it wore off the first two or three days but i don't know if it's just my class schedule or just the meds not working too well. i do need to pay attention to if taking them with food makes a difference cuz sometimes i do and sometimes i don't and i keep forgetting to pay attention to if there's a difference.

actually now that i think of it they might actually work better in the morning. some days i will start planning out things i need to do in the morning or early afternoon but then later when i actually have time to do them i'm not able to get myself to do them.

I look at you profile and it could possibly be the depression you experiencing see my doctor had tried giving me medication my adhd but then he wouldn't do it because of my depression he had said something among the line of it wouldn't work as well.

@sammiesam i'm on meds for my depression that are managing that pretty well and my anxiety meds help too. so i think my depression is managed pretty well. would my depression still affect how well the adhd meds work even though it's managed pretty well?

What soupgoblin said, definitely ask about a booster med! I’m on daily vyvanse but have IR adderall prescribed to take as a booster afternoon dose when i need it
