Solitary plasmacytoma

Solitary Plasmacytoma is a rare disorder, similar to multiple myeloma. People who have solitary plasmacytoma suffer from a tumor that is composed of plasma cells, typically in a bone. In 70% of the cases, solitary plasmacytoma may progress into multiple myeloma.

Signs & symptoms

The most common symptom is pain at the site of the tumor, other symptoms depend on the location of the tumor.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include blood tests, urine tests, and imaging tests. The final diagnosis is done by taking a biopsy from the tumor.

Treatment

Treatment may include radiation therapy, and surgery to remove the tumor. If the tumor progresses to multiple myeloma, chemotherapy will be needed as well.
