Seeking Advice on Managing Undiagnosed ADHD

I've been doing some research into ADHD and think that I've had it my whole life but have never been diagnosed. has anyone been through this and if so, how did you manage to treat it before you have seen a dr? I'm working on getting insurance now so I can see a professional but it's going to take time and I'm trying to stay sane.

Hi Dennio, Yes, I was just diagnosed this year (2024) in Feb @ 37 years, female with Inattentive type ADHD and Level 1 ASD. So, I know the feeling. I always knew something was up, but had no idea what until I switched to a new psychologist at the end of 2023 and she picked it up within a few hours of knowing me. Can't really help on the staying sane front before a diagnosis, but I hope you can get the help you need soon. Just know you are not alone. Good luck. 💕

I was diagnosed last year at 52. I always knew I was different and didn't feel I belonged anywhere. My psychologist suggested I might have it, and a year later, the diagnosis was confirmed. I deal with it the same way I have for years. Lots of lists, keeping things I need in plain sight and putting all important events in my phone calendar with alarms. I also have an app that beeps softly every hour so I don't lose track of time, and I gamify chores around the house with a website called Wheel of Names and a timer. Anything that will make it more interesting 🙂

I know some people self medicate with caffeine(coffee, tea, energy drinks, etc.) if they can’t get medicated at a doctor, since both the meds and caffeine are stimulants; I’ve never tried it myself but it works for some people

Actually, I think tried it a couple times, but it made me feel my heartbeat which irritated my sensory issues; so I didn’t end up using it long term
