Make yourself some catnip tea it sounds crazy but it has a relaxing effect similar to marijuana and in turn it alleviates some inflammation and so some pain also goes too it's not like knock your pain out and gone but if you don't have a medical card for marijuana and don't wanna break any laws that may or may not be present where you are from then it's an alternative hope it helps you out

I don't if it worked, it wouldn't be alt medicine, it would just be called medicine. Evidence based only for me. #Science
avatar

CreativC

2y

different things work for everyone, and some things considered by some to be in the alt medicine category are actually backed by multiple studies. :) like Sweet Mary Jane
avatar

AngelVII

2y

sometimes there just isnt enough motivation to do studies. Who does studies to determine the efficacy of different medicines? Largely, pharmaceutical companies. Now if Im a pharma company, what am I going to do if I discover that dandelion tea has promising anti inflammatory properties? Make a pill from it that I can sell and never tell people where I got that property in my pill from. Every pharmaceutical drug is made and derived from plants, minerals, animals, and other things found in the natural world. Alt medicine is about finding the plants/minerals/etc that pharmaceutical medications are derived from and using them in their unprocessed state. Its like eating whole foods instead of processed foods. The pill is more pure and therefore, often more effective because of its processing, but the natural stuff still has value, especially when you are unable to afford the pills, but you can go to a field down the street and pick a bunch of dandelions. I would NEVER advocate a person use alt medicine in place of medicine that is backed by peer review and well conducted scientific study. Ever. Science first. BUT As a person with pretty severe chronic pain, I can speak confidently that many "alt medicines" DO have value. Marijuana- good for pain, insomnia, nausea, appetite stimulation, stress, and a myriad of other stuff. Best jack of all trades medicine on Earth. This is the hill I die on. Hot epsom salt bath- good for its anti inflammatory and muscle relaxing properties. Ginger root- the number 1 prescribed anti nausea in recorded history. Also, I can't remember for sure, fact check me, but I *think* has anti inflammatory properties as well. People have been using ginger as medicine forever. Verified treatments from qualified medical professionals will always take priority for me too. But please don't completely dismiss the medicines found in their natural and unprocessed forms. Sometimes they're the only medicines people have access to because they can be found or grown in your own backyard. Pills are expensive.
avatar

fallonsly

3y

I wouldn't say it's alt med. But diet is very important. Look at what your disease does. Not symptoms but if it releases anything. Like my mast cell releases a lot of things in masses. I've noticed I feel a lot better after I introduced pineapple and dark chocolate because they have natural inhibitors. (I do take medication. A lot. But they only do so much.) Foods can also help your meds work better. But ask your doctor. I know many people can't eat things like grapefruit with their medication. So be careful.

Cbd, not just like edibles but like using soaps and lotions with it. As long as your cbd has no thc you don’t get ‘high’ and you should pass drug tests. If it’s legal for you to use go for it! I personally like edibles (it’s just safer than smoking and you still get the benefits). I don’t agree with daily use (even tho let’s be honest sometimes we feel like we need that 😅) cbd has helped me with pain, depression, anxiety, and more. I didn’t realize how many muscles I tense up until cbd helped me loosen them.

There is so many I swear by that I don't even know where to start tbh. ✋🙌 1st cbd. It's helps assist me with my spiraling thoughts! It honestly took me a whole week to even get the courage to try it and am I glad I did.❤️✋ I fell in love with how much it helped. 2nd is my dogs. I have 4 and they help me get out and talk to people I normally wouldn't. I definitely recommend it for people that don't know how to start up a conversation lol💕💕 3rd is yoga and meditation. Even just meditating for a few breathes a day helps tremendously. People think you need to do 10 mins or an hr when really all you need to do is a few breathes. Let me know if this helps

Here’s a list of things I utilize for different things! For Digestion issues: Antiacid tablets, the generic OTC kind. Chamomile, Lavender and Earl Grey Tea. Chicken Broth as well (Also works for decongestant, I rest my face over the bowl while eating and it works like a charm), Culturelle / Probiotics For Vitamin Intake: Complete Equate Multivitamins As for alternative medicines, I have considered CBT usage as it is legal for consumption in my state, but do advise to ask your therapists first—Some recommend it, some don’t. Mine didn’t due to my addiction history. My roommate does Hypnotherapy, and they say it works really well to calm the body. I do Chiropractic stuff for my Bilateral back pain (lower), but I one of these days am going to do Cupping or Acupuncture as well.

Other things I was able to remember that I also utilize… Holistic Bowl therapy (I do not remember the exact term) & Crystal routines. I swear by regular exercise, fresh air, and unplugged time. No, they're not cures, but they are the difference between me feeling capable of action and feeling like nothing is worth the struggle. The exercise doesn't have to be an hour of lifting weights at the gym. I do ten minutes of the same yoga routine every morning in my living room. Anything that you enjoy or tolerate and gets the blood flowing. This also helps with my tics.
