Amitriptyline for GI Issues: Anyone Else Struggling with Medication Anxiety?

does anyone take amitriptyline for gi issues? I'm supposed to be taking it, but my anxiety is really bad when it comes to new meds. and so I haven't really taken it. I'd be on a low dose of 20mg once a day. which is a really low dose and not many side effects happen with it. but my hypochondriac brain thinks otherwise

Hey, I took amitriptyline for a long while! I did not take it for GI issues, but I was on a low dose, as well. From working in the pharmacy, I learned a LOT of people took low doses and tolerated it really well! My experiences would have me pass on the advice to take it at night, but sleepiness was my only side effect. Best of luck!

thank you so much! My biggest worry is heart issues. But they did an ekg and everything and told me it was perfectly ok to take But hopefully I'll be able to get myself to take it soon!!

heyyy, i’m on amitriptyline have been for 4 years. i’m on 40mg at the moment and it is amazing, working in a pharmacy myself i see doses as high as 150mg (the maximum dose) so comparing 20mg it is very low. only side effect i get is feeling sleepy which actually helps me because i struggle to sleep usually anyway, i used to have heart issues and all my ekg’s would come back normal, no qt prolongation. this drug really helped me to get my life back and is amazing for nerve pain and i’ve heard from patient’s experience it is really good for gi issues. don’t be worried about taking it 20mg would not cause any side effects barley. all the best!!

i have had some amazing results with amitriptyline, however it did cause me to develop a prolonged QT, they said the may be because i already have POTs and it interacts with the medication. however it is still perfectly safe for me to take and has not effected me negatively. i don’t take it for gi issues though mine is for fibro pain. x
