Do Antidepressants Make You Dependent?

I was wondering if antidepressants make others feel as though they can’t be happy without them like they’re life support.

I feel that way about lamotrigine. Tried to get off of it, and I ended up in the hospital 😔

it’s like I know it’s to treat my “moods” but I don’t want to be labeled as bipolar They gave me this when I got out of the hospital and it makes me feel like I’m crazy

I agree last time I went off them I was so depressed that I started thinking of ending my life.

Lamotrigine isn't an antidepressant it's a mood stabilizer. It treats from below and stabilizes from below, so it's technically an antidepressant mood stabilizer (as opposed to a manic mood stabilizer). That being said, yes I have felt like lamotrigine has message me emotionally flatlined so to speak. I have considered asking my psychiatrist if I can get off of it and just use my antipsychotic for my mood stabilizer.

I think once my life is more stable (I’m in college) I’ll be able to move away from being on medications. My sister is five years older and she’s no longer on lamotrigine. Honestly I’ll be sticking to my medications for the foreseeable future, but my mom has asked me if I think I’ll be on them for the rest of my life. My answer is yeah, probably. Right now I need a chemical solution because my brain is all out of whack. Maybe one day I’ll be able to live with my bipolar disorder and depression without medications, but it’s hard to know until I’m older. At this point I’ve been on and off antidepressants since I was 16, and those didn’t help much until I was also on lamotrigine for my bipolar. I’m on three different prescriptions daily, and it got a lot easier to take them regularly once I bought one of those weekly pill dividers. (I feel like an old lady) I fill it up once a week and I can hold myself accountable when I can physically see which days of the week I’ve taken my prescriptions.

I unfortunately feel the same way. If I'm off of my medication I'll do really bad things to myself. While it's not fun taking medicine, I think it's worth taking a tiny pill or a few a day to be stable.

I find Wellbutrin very helpful it helps me focus and my anxiety is not as bad. However, Sometimes I am too emotional if I don't take it or I forget to take it does this happen to everyone else who takes Wellbutrin or forgets to take it. I am just wondering, If anyone else can relate?
