Anxiety Before Sleep: Fear of Heart Attack or Stroke

I have several anxiety before going to sleep . I somehow manage to convince myself I'm dying of a heart attack or having a stroke. or I'll become paranoid that something is in the room with me. I can't get any sleep with this. It's hard to explain to doctors becuase it doesn't happen during a sleep study, only when I'm sleeping at home or alone.

I suffer from insomnia as well. I might get 3 hours tops a night if I am lucky. When I was in the hospital for liver failure, they were giving me 10mg of ambien (spelling?) And then when I got home, they just cold turkeyed me. Iv been trying 10mg chewable melatonin for the last year, but it makes my anxiety worse. Do you use your bed for watching tv or other things besides sleeping? My anxiety and panic attacks hit in the middle of the night. I get up and leave the bedroom for an hour and focus on breathing. Then I try sleeping again, and then stopped using my bed to watch tv, etc. It has helped a bit.

I have trouble sleeping alone at night. I am afraid of the dark still. Going to bed gives me anxiety too. The sound of the Air Conditioner used to make me jump. I spent 2 years learning DBT and some CBT and it helped me with hypervigalance.

I suffered from panic attacks before bed and I talked to my doctor and she put me on hydroxyzine(spelling?) And I was able to to get some relief.

My doc won't put me on anything, but Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine. Same class as benadryl. I use it for itchy skin.

I'm afraid to sleep at night. I feel like I'm going to die from a stroke, heart attack or low blood sugar in my sleep. I work 1:30 pm - 9:30 pm. Sometimes I stay up until the sun comes up. I have a Lazy Boy rocker recliner I sleep in a lot. It can recline and still rock. Also, I have cats. 2 of them purr loudly and I find it very relaxing to have them near me where I can feel/hear them when it's time to sleep.
