Dealing with Anxiety and Constant Chest Pain

I struggle with major anxiety and suffer from chest pain all the time , I checked out with an er doctor because it got to the point I was concerned something was wrong but she told me my heart looked okay and chest pain was a symptom. It concerns me how often I have it although.

hey!! here’s an anecdote that might make you feel better. first of all, anxiety has a whole bunch of very real physical manifestations, which could easily explain your chest pain. But I know sometimes you can’t always appeal your anxiety to logic. My anxiety has A LOT of physical manifestations. I have seen so many specialists thinking I had issues with xyz when it turned out almost all of it was connected to my anxiety. The most validating and helpful thing a doctor told me was that some people have heightened sensitivity to bodily functions, and it is really common in people with anxiety (there’s a bit of a chicken-or-egg complex here, hard to say which came first). Basically, she explained to me that there are things I feel as pain that are actually my body just functioning. It doesn’t mean the pain isn’t real, just that it isn’t necessarily a signifier that something is wrong physically.

the over simulation of the body is so bad. When I was growing up I contained everything and now as an adult it’s like it has my body under it’s control

I am so sorry you are struggling with this, it can be so scary and make you think the worst is happening to you. Anxiety and panic attacks definitely make me hyper aware of my bodily sensations. I feel everything, tightness and pounding in my chest, my legs tremble to the point it feels like I'm shivering from the cold, my head feels extremely heavy and foggy and I feel like I can't get a good breath in. I have a panic attack at least once a day, sometimes more though. I downloaded this app called Dare, there are different voice recorded exercises to help you through your anxiety, panic attack, racing thoughts, etc. One of them specifically is for bodily sensations, he says that we feel them because of over stimulation, the exercise is literally him saying to tell yourself, I am excited by this feeling, I release control back to my body. It sounds scary and he admits that but It really has helped me tremendously when it comes to bodily sensations. I literally have to ride the feeling out and not try to control my body. His voice is sooo soothing too, I put him on when I am trying to go to sleep as well.💕🤗

Panic attacks often have chest pains as a symptom because they mimic heart attacks.

I have been to the ER so many times in my life because of chest pain, tightness, hyperventilating, sweaty palms etc. My mind would race and I thought I was having a heart attack everytime. It's good that you got yourself checked out. Maybe its time to see your regular doctor and try a medication? If you don't have a regular doctor, I highly recommend getting one. I have been much better now that I see my doctor when needed. They can discuss your options to get you on the right track to feeling better. Good luck 😊
