Applying for Disability Benefits with Chronic Pain and Mental Issues

Hi, I'm Pea! I'm trying to apply for disability benefits. I have had chronic pain as well as mental issues that have made it difficult, and now impossible for me to work. I have Elhers Danlos Syndrome and am hoping that with a diagnosis I will be able to get benefits. Is there anyone that would be able to share their experience trying to get benefits, or how to go about doing so. I'm only a little familiar with the process, but have some questions about it. Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve applied for disability, but was denied. I got a lawyer for the appeal, but it’s up to a year wait in NY. It’s hard getting it for just EDS, but my genetic dr just told me that there’s a genetic test you could take for it (even though I didn’t think there was). I know the more proof you have, the better your chances are of getting approved. Before applying for the appeal, make your rounds to all of your drs that will be able to show how bad your condition is.

there’s a whole panel that they do, and it tests for all of the subtypes except hEDS. My dr made me get it done before I got a hEDS diagnosis
