Seeking advice on getting an ASD diagnosis

I have recently started to connect back to my younger self and realize how long and often I have had symptoms of ASD. Being around my family always a struggle because I always feel so outcasted by them. I have been hoping an official diagnosis will cause me to feel some relief and hopefully help my family understand me a little better. The problem now I face is knowing what the first step is in trying to get a diagnosis? Does anyone know where to start?

Can you help? Connect today

i talked to my therapist about it and she set me up an appointment to get a full psych evaluation. you could also talk to your primary care physician abt it

same here. definitely reccomend therapy as a basic starting point, i found out i had more going on up there than i initially thought, but they gave me the referrals to get everything diagnosed and treated.

I really hope that can happen for me! I used to have a therapist but she was, unfortunately, awful 😭

I’ve been having a really hard time finding testing resources. And it’s very discouraging and uncomfortable to make the Calls and ask about it for them to be like - ok sure how old is your child? And I’m like—— it’s for myself actually…..no help yet.

Same. Lots of thinking back to how I was when I was younger and connecting the dots of me not just being a "weird" kid but an autistic kid.

I talked with my primary doctor about my traits and he gave me a referral, but the thing is he didn’t think/help me because he said he doesn’t think I’m autistic but ever since I was young I had autism traits. My parents are going to find another doctor that wants to find the problem not ignore/overlook my concerns.

A therapist, PCP or psychiatrist may be able to help you get a referral. If not you can Google "adult autism testing near me" or something similar. This is what I did. In my experience, therapists and doctors (even my previous psychiatrist) don't know much about it so I had to find resources on my own.
