Aspergers got lumped in with ASD so its technically no longer diagnosed.

Its no longer an official diagnosis, the term itself is harmful so most people dont use it even if that was their diagnosis /nm

Aspergers is now just apart of ASD. It's not fake but it is found to be an offensive term because the man who named the term after himself was a no-no person in WW2

i definitely say the term aspergers is fake. it was created by a nazi during wwii to separate the "good" autistic people from the "bad". it's very outdated and ableist. There's nothing wrong with being autistic, and being autistic is a spectrum so of course it will look different for everyone.

Aspergers is a eugenics era word for “autistic people who can still make money”. In WW2 a nazi doctor coined the word to distinguish between “childhood schizophrenics” (what autism used to be called) who should be killed verses sterilized and forced to work. Moving further in time it often only distinguished 2 factors: verbal/non verbal and autism w/o intelligential disability verse autism w/ intelligential disability. They determined there was no biological distinction between any of the 5 autism spectrum conditions. Considering aspergers is also a harmful terms that is solely designed to classify autistic people who “should be allowed to exist” verses those who are “too much of a burden to exist”. All of them were unified under autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in 2013 by the DSM 5. So yes aspergers is fake and harmful.

It's not fake. It's real. But just like how you may call something blue in English and azul in Spanish doesn't mean it isn't real. All the previous comments explain why some people call it fake. I personally identify with the term still. The only reason is because that's what I was diagnosed with and I relate more to people with that diagnoses than all the other (but still wondeful!) People diagnosed with ASD. I feel like a phony if I say I has ASD but if I say I have Aspergers that seems more correct. I know the roots are awful and thankfully aren't what they used to be.
