How do I tell my parents I think I'm autistic?

Hi, I'm Fizz How do I explain to my parents that I think I'm autistic? I don't understand alot of things that people say I should and I show alot of signs for autism, I've been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, Depression and some others but I really do think I'm autistic and I don't know how to tell anyone, friends family or therapists.

Can you help? Connect today

There is a ton of overlap between ADHD/ADD and ASD. Us neurodivergent folks really have the same experience in differnet flavors imo. There is definitely a difference, but a LOT overlaps. I don't know if reaching out to mom first or therapist first would be the best move for you. Personally, I don't tell my parents things like that until I feel very confident in it, usually with professional diagnosis/recommendation. I would start by talking to whomever you think would be most open to the idea and go from there.

I’m in a similar situation right now. I’ve been dealing with diagnosed ADHD + anxiety but people keep pointing out that I’m most likely on the ASD spectrum. I’m not ashamed of any of it and honestly I want an official diagnosis. But I do think it would upset my parents who see me as the healthy “perfect child,” but it would really help me to ask her about my traits as a child. I guess I just won’t get to do that.
