Do you ever feel like you're on autopilot?

I remember a time when I was playing football at the park and a kid had a football and I went to tackle him. and I had my arms around him when I snapped to and relized that he didn't have the ball anymore. I also sometimes talk during these moments. before one time I was smacktalking my dad apparently. I don't remember what I said but he smacked me and I didn't know why until I asked my mom what had happened. I feel like I do things automatically like it was programed, but it's not like muscle memory. because these aren't things I do on a regular basis. I also feel foggy in the moment. Anyone else have experiences like this?

Sometimes I say things that I don't remember and u didn't believe my hubby until he showed me that I literally just texted it. I get confused sometimes.

Back in high school, I would have hours upon hours of this happen at once, so don’t feel alone in it. It is very scary, and thankfully it’s scaled back at least a little for me. I don’t really know how to keep myself from that sorta “autopilot” mode, so I’m sorry I’m not able to afford to give you much more than reassurance that you’re not alone in those experiences

Sometimes I do the weirdest shit while in this mode though

I get that sometimes but in a different way as in I’ll be looking through my drawers/wardrobe and there’s loads of new clothes hanging up and I don’t know where/when/how I bought them!! And sometimes I’ll say stuff that I shouldn’t but then it takes me a few hours/a lecture to realise what I’ve said if that makes sense??

I once made a whole Lego structure without realising as well. It’s like autopilot mode 😂

I used to black out as a child and people would tell me I said or did things that I couldn't remember. It still happens as an adult but not as much as when I was younger.

I'm not sure how common it is but I wonder if it might be linked to ASD?
