Struggling to Concentrate with Bipolar Disorder

Do any of you that suffer with bipolar disorder find it hard to concentrate on a movie, book or homework, etc? I do not have ADHD but I do have bipolar and insomnia, but it’s so hard for me to concentrate on anything. I jump from activity to activity. Any comments on how to help?

Yeah I'm the same way. I think I may have ADD too but I've never been diagnosed. But I can DEFINITELY tell when I'm manic or depressed that it's incredibly hard to focus or even think coherently, and I find that even in between episodes(though it gets worse when I'm manic/depressed) I struggle to remember things and organize my thoughts. Is it getting worse with age for you all too? I feel like over the last 5 years my cognitive abilities are just deteriorating rapidly. I can't remember things anymore, forming cohesive thought patterns is getting harder, it's like...like my brain is slipping, y'know?

hey I totally relate to your comment! I feel like I’m experiencing a real decline in cognition. I’m currently doing a series of neuropsychological tests and I’m really hoping for answers. I miss being able to think, understand, remember, and.. function, basically. I just want to find a solution to manage this mania and everything that’s taking over my life…

I get that! I have ADHD as well but a lot of times I've heard and even in my diagnosis the original thought was that it was ADHD but it turned out to be bipolar disorder as well. I wasn't diagnosed with insomnia when I was very very young but I did have signs of it and for me, caffeine worked as a reverse for it. My dad and I would have tea and it would kind of work as a calming thing before bed hope this helps <3
