Bipolar vs Schizoaffective: How to Tell the Difference

There are two types of schizoaffective disorder. One is bipolar type and one is depressive type (which I have). If people (in life) are confused and have never heard of schizoaffective disorder I just tell them (in my case) I have schizophrenia and major depressive disorder. People understand that better

So I guess what I’m getting at is that it could be diagnosed separately but that’s the whole reason for schizoaffective disorder existing. Someone with bipolar only experience symptoms associated with bipolar disorder. Where as someone with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type experiences both symptoms and meets the criteria for diagnosing schizophrenia as well as bipolar. Bipolar is categorized as a mood disorder and schizophrenia is categorized as a psychotic disorder.
