Looking for advice on getting a BPD diagnosis

how did you guys go about looking into a bpd diagnosis? i’m 17 and it feels like i’m going crazy over and over again :/… i’ve been in and out of therapy for two years and i don’t know how to ask. i’ve had issues with being completely transparent about my episodes and such. what did it take for you to get diagnosed ?

Can you help? Connect today

Most people don't like to diagnose with bpd until you are over 18. That's what I was told anyway. It took me until I was 18 for them to officialize it (pretending thats a word). It's okay to feel nervous asking about a diagnosis but its your health we're talking about so you do have the right to know. I hope you get it figured out though. And please don't be afraid to ask questions. It is always possible to be misdiagnosed!!

I just recently got diagnosed with bpd less than 4 months ago. They did a full mental health screening so if you can I'd probably ask for that. I'm 17 and still got diagnosed but I'm very close to 18 so that might have played into it. If they will do a full mental health screening it could help you get other diagnosis that help.

I actually initially asked my psychiatrist about potential autism diagnosis, because I’ve been unable to maintain or develop healthy friendships for most of my life and I couldn’t figure out why. She then asked me a bunch of questions unrelated to autism and it wasn’t until she diagnosed me that I realized it was a BPD screening.
