Some individuals have found Lexapro and Trazodone helpful for managing BPD symptoms. Others have had success with Lamictal/Lamotrigine, a mood stabilizer that has also improved ADHD symptoms for some....See More

Lamotrigine, Cimbalta, Abilify are what I am currently taking. I just recently started the Cimbalta and don't know how I feel about it yet.

None. The treatment for BPD is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Now, meds can treat *some* of the symptoms, but given that you only have to have 5 of the 9 criteria to be diagnosed, there are a *lot* of different presentations of BPD. So, which symptoms are you talking about treating with meds? Me, personally, I've done a boatload of hard work in individual and group therapy over the last 5 yrs, and I'm only on 2 psych meds, and neither is for anything related to BPD. There are no shortcuts here.

Thx for your response... I've done DBT therapy, along with years of regular therapy... Recently went to rehab for alcohol addiction where I really became aware of my BPD and why I am the way I am... That being overly emotional in every conceivable situation, crave connection but don't trust people, I'm angry, anxious and permanently exhausted from the neverending battle in my brain.. I'm trying to build new pathways, retrain my amygdala etc but suffering bad with depression, no self esteem, no motivation and no hope I'll ever find contentment.. I was hoping to find a medication to allow me to put into action the coping mechanisms I've learnt. I'm frustrated at all the effort I put in but nothing changes... I need hope..

Another type of therapy that is also helpful to me is the Internal Family Systems model. https://ifs-institute.com/ I highly recommend you read about it. This modality has helped me a lot with healing the wounded parts of me that my protector parts are still trying to protect. Once healing happens, it's a lot easier to use your skills. Another one to check out is EMDR. That one wasn't as helpful for me, but it's extremely healing for many people. (And while the original version is eye movement, there are other ways to accomplish it without the eye movement, such as binaural beats through headphones or discs held in the hands that vibrate in an alternating pattern.)

Seemingly unoriginal, but Lamictal/Lamotrogine has been really helpful for me; at least for the mood swings and the severity of said moods. I feel a little more stable now in regards to when certain moods come on and why. As for the more thought-processy aspects, therapy has been extremely helpful; me and my therapist spitball different methods together, like EMDR and CBT, rather than me having sought out a specific type of therapy. It has its pros and cons, and some work and some don't, but for the most part it's worked for me. EMDR didn't work for me personally, aside from getting me to cry about something once... but it doesn't hurt to try if it's available to you. CBT seems like the most popular option for people with BPD?

I'm on a cocktail of lamictal, mirtazipine and abilify. Finally seem to have found a good balance.
