Considering Breast Reconstruction Options During Chemo

Reconstruction is on my mind. I'm on chemo now I have been advised to make a decision about the right breast. I understand there is no outcome without risk, is it true that removal doesn't better my odds against breast cancer significantly? Does anyone have experience with fat only Reconstruction? Thank you!

Common sense says that it has to reduce the odds. And your bio says this is your 2nd round of cancer. So i dont know how anyone wouldnt say that you are high risk. Genetic testing could possibly prove that. However, even if testing comes up negative, it simply means that they have not identified those genes/mutations yet. They are still very simplified in their analysis. I have Chek2 mutation. We didnt know that 20 years ago. Now we know with it that i had a 37% chance of having a 2nd primary breast cancer. My 2nd breast cancer was 2 years ago. 20 years after the first. They indicated that i could just have the one removed. It was not spread but that side already was radiated and cant do again. I actually had to push to have the other side removed. Turns out in biopsy that it was just a grade shy of being classified as cancerous too. My oncologist states <1% chance of reoccurrence because of the double mastectomy. I love it. No more wondering. No more numbers of 5 year mark, 10 year mark. Just done with it!!! Additionally, i went the "go flat movement" and people still know im a girl and they could care less than im a couple pounds lighter.

Thank you for your informative words. I go to genetics soon. I am curious to understand this 2nd primary cancer incredibly initiated at the site of the first. I'm hoping for a path for my daughter and sister and nieces and cousins...to somehow be the first and the last. I like the flat movement currently, the idea of anomalies, discomfort and fussing feels counterintuitive. I wish you every good thing.
