It's made it harder for me to even find a job. I cannot work and no place is willing to accommodate me.

I've tried to be more flexible but that's resulted in unstable finances and lack of routine. Often, I can disappear which has caused me to lose jobs because I'm unable to communicate. It's exhausting and gives me additional worries. I hope to find someone one day that can understand so I can work in a supportive environment and feel the need to pick up the phone when I have the bad days. Yet I understand that they have a business to run. It's a little like catch 22. I just feel like I'm getting all of the bad side.

My condition has made my work life so much harder. I pride myself on dependability, but now there are days when I just can't come to work, and my employer has not been very understanding or accommodating

as someone who has asd and a lot of mental health challenges at the start, it was really difficult cause no one didn't accommodate me. I have been a mental health and disability care giver and advocate for 11 years. So, 4 years ago, I stopped that, and now I have my own business as an advocate for asd aswell as I completed my double degree in ot and physiotherapy. I thought it was going to be really tough finding a place to accommodate me, but this place where I'm working, so accommodating from longer breaks, breaks in between my patients and more.. most of all, I'm glad that my patients understand as well.

Currently haven't finished school yet. What should be the last 2 years has taken alot longer, this year is my 4th. As my body limits me more, my goals change, like, I could still love the idea of a job but there's no practical way my body will cope. I'm 19 and have a worst case scenario job plan for if I can't leave the house much. Several drs have told me I should work in the medical field (I definitely know enough to) and whilst it does play to a strength I do worry it would feel like I never have a break, and just the physical side of things and my body being reliable to work like that. Right now just want to finish high school

i want to go into performing arts and im currently rehearsing my first 2 professional shows, but as i have endometriosis and pcos and typically am too ill for 2 days per cycle (irregular) my mum doesnt think it is realistic to pursue this. I am hoping that with understudies taking a max of 2 days off every 4-8 weeks shouldnt be a problem. Its really heartbreaking and unfair though to have people tell you its not realistic to pursue your dreams because of something you cannot control
avatar

Bre19

that's very true unfortunately

I do not believe that for a couple days per cycle you shouldn’t pursue your dreams of performing. Those days might not fall on a day you work, or like you said an understudy could cover for you. They probably would be happy for the opportunity. Since you called your mother mum, I’m assuming you’re not in the US. I would think you should still have access to medications that are used here for pain. Do you have anything that is like the Americans with Disabilities Act? That says that an employer must give reasonably accommodations to a person with a chronic problem. Good luck to you, and go for it!
