Chronic Throat Clearing: Seeking Advice and Opinions

6 years ago I got over a sinus infection and then had problems with chronic throat clearing. I saw so many doctors that had no clue what was going on and thought it was just a tick but I could feel thickness at the back of my throat 24/7. I was prescribed omeprozol and it was the only thing that stopped it. I've been taking 20mg twice a day since and if I miss one it comes back. I've never had a proper endoscopy or seen a GI doc. ive heard lots about omeprozol not being good to take long term and that scares me. I no longer have the prescription and have just been buying it over the counter. I know I should try to tapper off to see how I feel but my throat gets so so bad to the point of constant clearing and I'm unable to speak or swallow in between. It keeps me up at night and I can't afford to go through that again with my job now. I'm interested in hearing opinions and advice from others with more experience than myself. TIA.

To add I had severe acid reflux as a baby I couldn't keep anything down but that only lasted for a little bit and my whole life it was normal until I was 17
