Considering Accutane for Hormonal and Cystic Acne

Hi! I’ve been struggling with hormonal and cystic acne for 16 years now, oof. I’m 27 now. Spironalactone, winlevi, and aklief help a lot, antibiotics don’t. However, I’m considering accutane because I don’t want to take Spiro forever. I tried going off it and it wrecked my face so I’m back on it again. Has anyone taken accutane? How bad were the side effects?

I’m on accutane right now. My side effects aren’t so bad compared to others that I see. Keep in mind, everyone reacts to it differently, so people could have worse side effects than you or better. I would recommend accutane if you’ve tried many other medications and none have worked. That’s my situation at least:)

I'm 25 and have been struggling with severe acne since 8th grade. I took Accutane while in high-school. I will say yes, it cleared me up, but at a cost I'm not sure was worth it in the end. Before being prescribed you have to fill out legality paper work that's about the size and thickness of a hairy Potter book, that no normal person would obviously read all the way threw. (Red flag) I took Accutane for about a year I believe, it cleared me up, I was happy to finally have clear normal skin, but quickly realized that my skin was super thin and ripped bled easily, my hair had gotten thinner, my teeth lost some of its density, and my perfect eye sight had started to slightly blur from time to time. I also shit blood for about a month. The worst though.. after all that, my acne came right back, just as bad as ever right when I got off. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole situation with Accutane.. because as much as it added more problems then solving, it did clear me up while using it, and just feeling what it's like to live a life acne free, for even a short period, might have been worth it. If even just a little. Idk.

Hi...I feel your pain....I was on Accutane twice years apart for 6 month sessions each. The only side effect I noticed was VERY VERY dry lips. I kept lips balm with me at ALL times. Unfortunately it did not really even touch my acne issue. I still have acne issues. I FINALLY found that honey wash, honey and cinnamon masks, alone with veg based squalene oil (to keep from overdrying), topped with 10% benzoyl peroxide cream, helps to FINALLY keep my acne under better control.
