Coping with Medical Trauma: How to Manage Unwanted Memories and Anxiety

In 2016 I had a major operation that shook my world and was an uncomfortable brush with death that still tends to haunt my thoughts to this day. Other people that have been in situations like that, how do you deal with the unwanted memories of your procedure and the anxiety that goes with it? How do you manage the feeling that another problem like that is right around the corner all the time?

I had heart surgery at 5 weeks, 5 years, and 15... I think it's contributed to my cptsd, but I've come a long way. Some therapy, taking about it and time... idk I feel I've come a long way but thinking about the next one still scares me. Part of me keeps it as a maybe it won't happen kind of thought. But if you are struggling please seek help from a licensed mental health therapist who is truama informed. It can be so helpful.
