Overly Counting Things and Feeling Anxious

Does anyone else overly count things? Like going down a road, I will count every single window, tree, paint line, lamp post, mailbox, ext. I see and get really anxious if we're going to fast that I can't keep up to count them all. Does anyone have any suggestions to help this?

I do the same thing pretty frequently. I suggest potentially closing your eyes and instead counting to ten a couple times to turn down those thoughts. It usually helps me unless it gets really bad. 😊

OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I count literally everything, if I'm watching a movie I can't have subtitles on because im too focused on counting letters.....I recommend putting on some music and just looking at something, the floor, ya know like social media, stuff on your phone. That's what I do and it sorta helps:)

Yes, I try and count the lines on the road while driving wherever there is a broken line (for passing). I always fail to keep up, and it causes me to panic 😞 I know it isn’t healthy, but I can’t help it.

I put on music to help or remind myself to ‘look up’… I tend to look at my feet while walking, which may be relevant

Oh my gosh, everything. Especially steps. But I don't like certain numbers, so when I hit them, I get upset. I know it's a simple recommendation, but try to breathe as deeply as possible and feel it in your body. That distracts me long enough that I lose count.

I feel this sometimes when I’m in public.. I count sidewalk cracks and need to distract myself when I hit certain numbers because they ‘rub me the wrong way’
