Struggling with a Dairy-Free Diet

I have stomach inflammation and GERD in addition to ibs. I’m trying to cut out dairy completely since it makes my symptoms/pain worse and it’s been really hard. Eating anything with dairy at all (butter, cow milk) makes me feel bad. Can anyone else relate? I can’t eat my favorite comfort foods anymore (pizza, pasta with cheese in the sauce, chocolate, ice cream, cheese sticks, cheese in sandwiches) or go out and eat like I used to. Eating anything with dairy at all (butter, cow milk) makes me feel bad. I’m letting myself eat some dairy on holidays and my birthday as an exception. I know that there are dairy free options out there for cheese and ice cream, which I haven’t tried yet, but I didn’t like dairy free pizza and i’m still looking for good dairy free pasta recipes. Not being able to go out for ice cream now in the summer sucks and I’m tempted to just go back to old habits and start eating whatever I like even though I’ll be in pain. I could use some words of encouragement to not give up :)

Have you tried Lactaid pills?

not yet, I’m going to get a lactose intolerance test to find out if I have that too. my doctor said that dairy itself makes inflammation worse even if there’s no lactose, so i’ll probably still feel bad bc of that. I want to find out if that’s a factor too though. I read that a lot of people threw up/got sick from the lactaid pills so I’m going to try another kind

I’ve been dairy free for years and have tried many different alternatives if you would like suggestions

My sister went through this because she is lactose-intolerant. One suggestion I have for you to replace ice cream is maybe do a coconut milk ice cream. My sister has tried that and liked it even though she didn't like plain coconut milk.
