Dealing with GERD Flare Up: Need Tips!

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with a GERD flare up? I’ve been experiencing it since Thursday and started taking Omeprazole this morning. As it can take a few days to work, I’d love any tips I can get. I don’t have other antacids at my home.

Can you help? Connect today

I do better with protonix (Pantoprazole). Omeprazole (prilosec) never worked for me. During flare ups I usually would take zofran or eat rice, crackers, or bread

Since I've started taking metformin to help keep my A1C and fasting glucose levels under control my reflux has gotten worse, so I take pantoprazole in the morning, use Tums as needed, and lansoprazole later in the day. Just make sure you eat within an hr after taking your antacids. Are you on any other medications that may be affecting your reflux and your meds for it?

not that I know of, I’ve been taking most of the meds I take for years and they’ve never made anything worse.

I take Lansoprazole (generic Prevacid) 30 mg. Every morning, then 20 mg of Pepcid after dinner, and 2 Tums at bedtime. I’ve had this for 40 yrs and this combination has worked for me. Good luck!

I take pepcid and omeprazol both! But eating light foods will help ease the pain. Try to avoid fatty and acidic foods, those will just make it worse!

Also! If you have any mint gum, that could help too!

I drink lots of peppermint tea, licorice tea + if you're able to go to the store b4 the Omeprazole kicks in I rlly recommend the Alka seltzer chews, they're a lot more concentrated than tums and the texture is a lot better/they don't make me nauseous!
