Dealing with Inattentive ADHD Symptoms in Serious Conversations

Just got diagnosed with ADHD but she said it was specifically the inattentive type? I guess just like instead of being unable to sit still, I can sit still more or less fine but I’ll be listening to someone speak and then suddenly I realize they’re on to almost a whole other topic and that I was thinking about the way fish gills work. But there’s so much with it that I didn’t know were symptoms of ADHD. How do you guys deal with serious conversations where you NEED and WANT to be paying attention but then your brain does this to you almost without you noticing? It’s one of the main things that really hurts me as well as my boyfriend a lot. Thanks : ) (also I’m looking into medication but I have to get a new med provider first. I’m asking more like little things to do other than meds).
