Dealing with Migraines: Coping Strategies Needed

I've never been able to get a formal diagnosis but when one comes on, I can do nothing but lay in a dark room with a pillow over my eyes and hope my pain relief kicks in before I feel like I'll throw up. Are there any specific things you do that can help until I get a diagnosis?

Look up tips and tricks to help migraines. If you do get migraines - which from your description, it sounds like you do - those are the things that can help curb your headaches. There is LOTS of info out on the web about foods to eat/avoid, beverages to drink/avoid, activities that help, etc. Good luck!

I know this doesn’t help for pain in the moment, but identifying your triggers in the meantime might help you avoid what causes them, and make the most of your visit if you are able to eventually see a doctor, since they’ll usually ask you if you’ve noticed any patterns. Investing in a pair of sunglasses, waking up and going to bed at consistent times, and staying away from migraine-triggering foods has helped me limit how often I get them. I hate journaling lol but sometimes it’s the best tool for seeing if there’s a common thing happening before/around when you get migraines.

What I do when I get hit with migraines is I take a supplement called MigreLief Now. There's also a MigreLief that I take at night as it is suppose to prevent migraines from happening. I use a heating pad on the back of my head and put a cold washcloth on my forehead. Depending on the headache, I usually shower and it helps it a little. Classical music also helps me if it's down low as it helps me focus on something else. Peppermint helps get rid of headaches too, I put a little bit of deluted peppermint on my temples and over my forehead and it helps tremendously. Hopefully you find stuff that works for you!

Headapp is a good tool for documenting what is going on and may give your doctors a better understanding. And it's free.

I've tried this gel called 'StopPain'. It kind of feels like muscle rub, and helps to stop some of the pain. Usually, it helps me fall asleep for a while and then I'll wake up with my migraine gone
