Dealing with Panic Attacks and Anxiety

I was diagnosed with GAD earlier this year, which wasn't really much of a surprise because I worry a lot anyway. But this last week or so, I have been getting panic attacks. I never used to get these in the past. So this is a very new experience for me. when I was first diagnosed with GAD, I was prescribed Lexapro, but it gave me so many side effects I stopped using it. So right now I'm not taking any medication for my anxiety, but was wondering if anybody has had the same experience with panic attacks recently and how they have handled it. It can be very scary.

I have an app called clear fear that helps me a lot. I also use the senses grounding technique when I start to panic- 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. It takes a bit of experimentation to find what helps you.

I have had a lot of those experiences with medications. It's communication with your doctor that matters the most. If they dont think the meds are causing the side effect yet you KNOW it is, get a new one ASAP. Ive had to do it so many time. I take hydroxizine (visteril) almost every night to help my head stop rushing. I havent found a perfect med for anxiety, but we need to keep our head up, cus one day we'll find it.

Barnes, I didn’t hear of this before- I’m absolutely gonna try it! It can get very scary, Buspirone helped me with the severity and frequency of the attacks with minimal side effects
