Dealing with PTSD Nightmares: Any Tips?

Has anyone found anything that helps with PTSD or anxiety-induced nightmares? Despite my medication, during times of high stress I get nightmares nightly and wake up exhausted (despite technically being asleep for a long time).

My therapist helped me with “nightmare rescripting”. I’ve had nightmares since I was a child and this worked like magic! I would recommend this to anyone with the help of a therapist. ❤️

My psychiatrist prescribed prazosin for my nightmares and it worked amazing. Can make you dizzy if you don't drink enough water with it though since it is a blood thinner (but a much lower dose than what is used for that purpose). Doctors still don't know why it works and I think it's still considered experimental for treatment of PTSD, but it worked very well for me and I might go back on it soon since my nightmares have come back

Im tired of drugs and this is what I do. Right before bed if I know I’m super stressed- my husband cuddles with me while doing breathing exercises, with dim lights, soft calming music playing, and if I want it’s a time to talk about what I was about to have nightmares about.

I hate to be that person, but the only thing that has helped me so far is cannabis 👀 I’m not a social smoker, I just vape before bed and it helps me sleep more deeply and calmly about 70% of the time. I still get nightmares every now and then, but a lot less often. I also haven’t had any sleep paralysis since I started taking cannabis.
