Dealing with TMJ Pain: Seeking Advice

Hi, I have had TMJ since childhood but it's gotten so much worse now. My dentist told me to see an oral surgeon but the closest in network one is well over 2 hours away. Anything I can do otherwise? How about a nightguard? My pain is worse in the mornings.

are you clenching/ grinding at night? that might be why your pain is worse in the mornings. if so, a night guard could be beneficial! a dentist could fit you for one if the oral surgeon is too far for you, the better the guard fits the more helpful it will be

Purchase a hockey teeth guard & sleep with it at night. The type you boil & mold to your teeth. Buy a facial massager, the y shaped ones with 2 balls at the top of the y. Use it during the day. Stay away from chewy foods & gum for awhile. Be mindful of how you hold you jaw during the day, your teeth shouldn't touch. Pay attention to when your jaw hurts & what triggers it, then do what you can to minimize the activity or change how you do it.

Hmm okay I'll look into it. I don't know if I'm clenching or grinding at night. I think I am because of the pain. I'm a heavy sleeper so I have no idea what goes on in my sleep.
