Debunking BPD Myths: Can You Have Other Diagnoses?

what’s the most ridiculous bpd myth you’ve heard? for me it was “you can’t have adhd and bpd” “you can’t have autism and bpd” while i’m diagnosed with all 3.

Hey I have all three too :0. But something that bugs me is that they told me i was too young to have bpd when i had one of my worst episodes. But bpd is a disorder that stems from CHILDHOOD trauma. I was roughly 15-16 when they told me this. And i was clearly acting much more destructive than your "typical teenage angst." Also relate to the "too self aware person." Takes forever to get therapists to believe that Im aware of my symptoms just not in control of them a lot.

The worst thing I ever heard was a clinical article instructing clinicians to shame BPD patients for genital self-harm by making degrading sexual comments to try to humiliate or shock them out of doing it again. Disgusting. And of course, I am one of those people who has cut my genitals… people wonder why I resisted being DX’d with BPD when this type of degrading shit is what a LOT of the clinical literature looks like…
