I try to stick to a schedule, which is easier said than done. I have found that showering first thing in the morning, even if I don't feel like it, even if it is the only thing I do that day, keeps something consistent. And it helps me feel like I was able to take care of myself at least a little.

My advice would depend on how long and severe your episodes typically are. 🤔 Generally, the #1 goal is keeping a safety plan and finding inpatient treatment in your area that you'd be comfortable going to in case you need more intensive help (it can be a good idea to go in just for quick med changes that could take weeks-months to do otherwise). And having healthy distractions ready to go. Make sure you're maintaining/seeking treatment. Physical issues can cause psychological symptoms as well. Learning from others is great. If you're going through hell, just know that surviving is enough. If you want advice relating more to your specific situation, I'd be happy to help.

So of course medication helps a lot, but routines can help too. I recommend doing your best to shower, work out, cook, and clean every day if possible, but obviously depression can make that damn near impossible. It is kind of a snowball effect both ways though. The more depressed you are the harder it is to stick to a routine, which can make the depression worse, but also sticking to a routine can help with depression enough to make continuing the routine even easier.

Ask yourself "What is ONE thing i need, right now?" as much as possible and fulfill it... Even if it's just to sit and breathe in silence, eat ice cream, or take a hot shower. Really listen to yourself. Don't try to fix yourself. Just comfort yourself like you would comfort a little kid.
