Getting Approved for Disability Benefits with Fibromyalgia and Anxiety

Has anyone ever had any success with getting approved for social security disability for fibromyalgia and anxiety? I have had learning disabilities ADHD depression and anxiety since I was a little kid. I am now 43. I have had several traumatic events in my life. which resulted in PTSD crippling anxiety and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in December of 2021.

I applied in the winter of 2020. I was denied. I appealed in September of 2021 and was denied again in March 2022. Those two times were before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Now I'm going in for the third time with a lawyer. I'm running into problems where my doctors do not want to support disability. It's extremely frustrating to even find a doctor to begin with and then get them on the same page as you.

I think your diagnosis of PTSD will help you get on disability.

have you gotten a lawyer? From what I understand, it's dang near impossible without one, but you don't have to pay them anything up front. They get paid when you do kinda thing.

I'm in the process for Anxiety and Depression with PMDD. I have to go to their Dr for a mental health screening. Hopefully it goes through. If not then I'm hiring a lawyer. My mother had to hire a lawyer for her health issues when SS denied her. There are lawyers who will take your case and not charge you upfront. They do a if you don't win your case you don't have to pay.

I got a lawyer who really knows the system. Fibromyalgia was just one of several issues I suffer from. They honed in on my migraines and that was a huge part of my case.

I have almost 10 years ago, but I had been sick with so much stuff including all above and more for about two years and due to that I couldn’t work and ended up on medicaid. After they realized how much they were paying for all my medical expenses they found and paid for a lawyer and just sent me a letter to sign. It took close to two years of reviewing, but I got paid partial lost wages in a lump sum and still keep getting a monthly payment plus medical coverage. They do reviews every 3-5 years and I just had my second and they continue to find me disabled. I work approximately 10 hours a week to help me stay sane and help contribute to my family. It’s good to have it but I’d rather be independent tbh. They have to know everything about you. Also, I was told if you’re not under regular medical care they will not approve you. So, basically you have to allow them to run your life in exchange for insufficient amount of money and medicare. Again, it’s good to have it and believe me I needed it so badly at first but it’s not a good long term solution unless you’re totally disabled or terminally ill. I’m grateful for it as it allowed me to take care of myself. However, I’d like to do something meaningful in my life as this feels like a life sentence with so many limitations. Good luck with it! And as someone suggested, get a lawyer if you’re not able to work and need it approved rather quickly . Apply for other government assistance programs that are available in your area and to you based on your unique situation.

I’ve been denied twice, and the biggest factors seemed to be 1) not having an official diagnosis at the time of applying, and 2) not having doctor support. When I spoke with the appeal lawyer, his biggest problem was not being able to “prove” with enough certainty that I’m actually disabled. If you can get your doctors and/or therapists on board to write a letter proving your conditions have a significant effect on you, you may be more likely to get disability. Also, I have heard you will always have to appeal a denial, so having a good disability lawyer would be invaluable, because they know the system and what to say. My local autistic advocacy group had a recommendation for a great lawyer they work with.
