Dealing with EDS and frequent thumb dislocation

Hi! I have EDS and notice that my thumbs dislocate multiple times a day. This has been going on for years but has never really caused me pain. Recently it has become more painful though. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and if you have found anything that has helped with it?

Can you help? Connect today

A thumb splint is a must for you. You're probably just developing some osteoarthritis in those joints since they move around so much. Early onset osteoarthritis and other use-related conditions and injuries are super common in people with EDS

I've heard silver ring splints are great, but pricy. In a pinch or when I can't use big splints or braces, I use sports tape. It seems to help hold things in place. If you need different options for tools or whatnot, I've been told to look up things for arthritis, especially if it's low-impact on the thumb. I do many things differently than typical to avoid putting pressure on my thumbs and wrists. If you have an OT or PT, they should be able to help with options too

I saw a hand specialist and am awaiting surgery. Probably going to get a surgery date later today. I tried the ring splints I tried braces, but as soon as I took it off it would pop and swell again.

If you would like to go the ring splint route, I recommend zebra splints. Corrine is super sweet and helpful. She also has Eds so she tries to keep her prices pretty low!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I’m looking into getting some splints!
