Struggling to Maintain Employment with Chronic Illness

I lost my job a few weeks ago due to me missing work because of my disease… how do you guys maintain fulltime jobs without things like disability or unemployment?

Can you help? Connect today

I ran out of unemployment because of covid about a yr ago so it’s been a struggle living off of my savings. I applied for disability a yr & a half ago..still nada. You should definitely apply for both if you’re not working

Yeah I got denied then hired a lawyer to get an appeal. Try to stay on top of it though

I wound up taking worse and worse jobs. And then when I found out I had MS- and trigeminal neuralgia, I quit and applied for disability. It took me 2 1/2 years to get it. I had to get a disability lawyer.

So basically people with disabilities won’t receive compensation unless they’re missing limbs, close to dying, or can afford a lawyer? that sucks. :/

@nubiansunflower - No no, a disability lawyer is free. They don't get paid unless/until you win. They get a cut of your back pay. So basically, they won't take your case if they don't think you have one. 👍

I mean, I am poor af. I'm on housing and food stamps. I couldn't afford a lawyer.

I even got luckier. My medical insurance saw what was going on with me and sent me a letter telling me to apply for disability and that they would help me. After I was denied twice, they hooked me up with a law firm.

I mean, I have easily ten+ autoimmune diseases. I can't even remember them all to list them all. 🤣

No me too!! I just moved to a new state and I want to be able to get food stamps but i’ve just been too scared to reapply again! I’m sorry that process was so hard for you :( but i’m super happy the end result was beneficial for you and your health 🤎 that gave me courage to reapply again thank you

@nubiansunflower yes! Please reapply. There's no penalty for applying. And start looking for disability lawyers. ❤️🤗
