Epilepsy and Genetics: Is it Hereditary?

Hey y’all, have had epilepsy almost all my life. But I’m the only one in my immediate family who has it? Is this…. Just biological stuff being weird or could something have happened during my birth to cause it you think? Also if you’re new to having epilepsy ask me anything about it! I can try my best to answer your questions!

I’ve had epilepsy my whole life as well. No one else has epilepsy in my immediate or extended family. I contacted my peds neurologist who diagnosed me and apparently I was born with a mishap in my occipital lobe. So I’d start there

I’ve had epilepsy since I was 5. No one else in my family has ever had it. I also have high functioning autism. One thing that is common with having autism is having epilepsy

Sometimes it is genetically pushed down from generation to generation but I think mine came from hitting my head on the corner of a trailer when I was little. Or could that even happen??
