Experiences with Amitriptyline for Chronic Pain Relief?

what are your experiences with amitriptyline? I started to taking 10mg, 3 days ago, to help with the chronic pain that is affecting my sleep as I've only been getting about 4 hours a night. I've heard quite a few people day that even though pain reduction doesn't start for a couple of weeks they've felt the sleep benefits straight away, but I've had nothing. my pain is still keeping me up and I don't feel drowsy at all.

I take 3 10 mg every day at 6:00 pm - heard it’s effectiveness is about 12 hours . Has helped me sleep but I did end up taking medical marijuana as well

I take the same amount as you, and it doesn't help with my sleep at all but definitely helps with my pain! I was hoping for both, but that's just not how it has reacted with my body unfortunately. I would wait until it starts to help with the pain, and if you still aren't sleeping go back to your doctor because you might need something else

You might need your dose increased. Talk to your doc.

You may need your dose increased. I started at 20 and got raised up to 30.

I've been raised to 30mg and it felt the same. I can't feel any particular effects most days, but if I forget to take it I do notice that I don't get to sleep as well, so it's clearly doing something. I'm having a review for stronger meds soon so hopefully that will help

I don’t know about sleep, but I'm also on duloxetine, so very slow dose increases. The anti migraine effects were instant though for me. I still get breakthrough pain but not at all like before. I am on a risky combo though, so the mix might be the thing that actually helps. I'd say give it abit of time, everyone is different and processes meds differently. Maybe 2 weeks? I also only noticed the quick effect of some meds a week after as I'm not consciously having to think about the pain so I'm just focused on doing stuff

I've been on it for about 6 months now and have had the dose raised a few times. I only notice any effects if I forget to take it, so I'm having a medication review soon to potentially get some stronger stuff

Morning I'm on 25mg and still only get a few hours sleep myself and I have been on amitriptyline for about 3 years now. I suffer from chronic pain as well the only benefit I get from this medication is that it helps to reduce some inflammation.

You’re on a really low dose right now so you will likely need to keep titrating up to get any real relief.
