There are multiple reasons why people have disorders. Usually it involves genetics and environment. My mother is schizophrenic and my sister is developing or already has it. Schizophrenic runs in my family through my mom's side it's genetic and also involves environment as well. I say that because I don't have but that because I got help at a young age, etc...

I believe it is genetic. The women on my mom's side of the family seem to get it the most. It seems luck of the draw.. my great grandmother didn't have it but my grandmother and mom did and it skipped me. If one parent has it there's only a 10 percent chance the child will have it from what I was told when I had my kids.

If yall get a chance read this article let me know what yall think. My step-dad who's only been married to my mom for 10 years (I'm 34 tomorrow) seems to think lithium is outdated. While true I know in the past its been the only drug to work for my mom, but has horrible side effects making my mom not want to continually take it. Thus ending her up back in the hospital. Let me know if any medications have helped you or your loved ones with the same experience. We have a week to figure out how to get my mom better, before insurance kicks her out the system. https://www.broadinstitute.org/news/researchers-find-first-strong-genetic-risk-factor-bipolar-disorder
