Fear of Getting Sick and Infecting Others

do any health anxiety folks out there relate to not just being scared of getting sick but also being scared of getting everyone else sick? i’m going home for the holidays but i’m so scared that i’ll get sick and infect everybody else. i know it’s kinda unavoidable even if that happens, but i can’t seem to get past this fear and it makes me not even want to go home.

My anxiety of getting sick was soo bad I started taking cold medicine because I felt the sore throat and the runny nose but after a good night sleep. The next morning I wasn’t sick. I’m like what??

I feel that too. I felt it more in 2020. I live with my mom and she has a weakened immune system and respiratory issues, so covid was never just a concern of me getting sick - it was a concern of infecting her and her not making it through. Sometimes I would not go out at all because I was afraid of getting her sick. If it makes you feel better and you think no one would make fun of you for it, you could wear a mask around them and socially distance. I still socially distance from her when I get sick. Being diligent in distancing from her makes sure I don't get her sick as well. If there's the slightest chance of you infecting your folks, that would help.

That's like me right now too mainly because im meeting the baby nephew in a few weeks. Had to go force myself to get a flu shot, the bivalent covid booster (as I never got any of the other boosters beyond the first two jabs), and my tdap since it's been 13 years since my last one. I also have a severe immunocompromised long time friend so it's always a worry imma get her sick or not (and this was pre-covid bs too). If ya for vaxs I would see what needs to be updated to maybe give yourself a piece of mind. I get sick on most vaxs so its hard to get myself in without being sick for several days, or like the tdap not be able to move my arm for a week (thought not as bad as the one 13 yrs ago when I had to go back in after two weeks because of it).
