Fear of Losing My Job Due to Mental Health Disorder

Does anyone else ever feel like they are going to get fired for a mental health disorder or should I just try to find a new company to work for…?

how long have you been working for this company, and where do you live? in the us, after a year with the same company you can get federally protected leave for chronic illnesses, including mental illness. i don't work anymore but i've definitely been in this position. but my last boss before i had to stop working was very kind, let me take time for panic attacks and an extended leave of absence before i ultimately left. so, understanding employers are out there! i don't really have any advice beyond looking into protected leave, but wishing you the best :)

I’ve never heard of protected leave, can you explain it more? I’ve worked for them for 4 months and get in trouble if I even miss a day for being sick, i constantly have panic attacks at work and don’t feel like I’m allowed to miss a day for mental healtg

I fear getting fired everyday. My manager knows I have fibromyalgia and get brain fog from meds, but she's not aware of my mental health issues. I fear if she finds out how messed up I really am, she'll find a way to fire me.

Unless your doing something against policy, I dont believe you can get fired for something because of health no matter if its physical or mental. Look up ada laws. And then if you get fired and you find out its because of your health go for unemployment and you will win.

so you have to have worked 1,250 hours with the company (about 160 8 hr shifts which is less than a year of full-time work) and i just learned the company has to employ at least 50 people. but if you can hold out for longer, look into the family medical leave act.
