Feeling Better When Sick: A Mental Health Discussion

does anyone feel MENTALLY better when they have a cold? I feel more in my body, more cozy, and more in the moment. My long episode of depersonalization also ended when I got sick. I’ve googled this & the reasons seem to be -more endorphins released when sick -brain associates colds with nostalgia of staying home from school, being taken care of -you’re forced to rest (feel less guilty for being “lazy”)

I have a cold right now! I was super burnt out from life and spiraling but then my body gave me an out with a cold and even though it’s uncomfortable being sick, I’ve just had this inner peace in my mind :) that research really makes sense!

I completely relate. I'm always so relieved when I actually get sick because at least when I'm legitimately sick I don't have to feel guilty or ashamed about my exhaustion and lack of productivity.

whenever I get a cold I feel so relieved because now I have an "actual" reason to lay around and do nothing😌😌🌠

I miss being taken care of the most I guess, but there's a kind of comfort in doing it for myself as an adult. With my depression, it's hard to take care of myself on normal days. When I'm sick, I feel like I know how to take care of myself better because I know the basics maybe? Soup, fluids, over the counter medicine if needed, lots of blankets, vics and vaporizer, cough drops, and binge watching shows. Everyday life when everything is supposed to be going okay and normal is what I have trouble wrapping my head around.

I so relate to this feeling. The relief of knowing how to actually solve a situation vs when everything should be normal and right, but simply isn't. That's a very challenging feeling. I guess we're all going through it.

Right! Knowing now that I live with chronic pain and still can't get help financially because it's so hard for me to work and move around a lot. I'm ready to get my degree already and get a desk job at least since I can't get disability, which I should.
