Still struggling. What I have found helpful in the past is external, active guidance on relaxation. I use an app called ‘Balance’ for guided relaxation / hypnosis. This is still difficult as it depends on me structuring my time and making provision for it. The best success I had was with a Tai Chi class at a local gym. The external input was bough to hold my attention and the slow, moving meditation with focus on form and breathing kept my mind away from more distressing, intrusive thoughts. This helped bring consistent relief from stress and cortisol on a regular basis. It didn’t remove or eliminate the intrusive thoughts, but allowed me to displace them for a while. Doing this consistently brought significant physiological benefits, including lower blood pressure and pulse and better sleep
