Forgetting things about yourself

does anybody else forget things about yourself until you see someone who has that thing too/hear it mentioned and then remember you have it? like, for example, I was looking at an Alike's page and saw they had a condition that I have/relate to, but I had completely forgot about it? Could that be an adhd thing?

Can you help? Connect today

Adhd comes with problems with short term memory and memory recall. It can be quite annoying.

adhd out of sight, out of mind is tough. I forget to text people back ALL the time and I’ve actually started using more visible storage because I’ll forget about stuff I own.

It isn't necessarily due to adhd, but that sure doesn't help. I don't have adhd & forget about things from the past like old surgeries & such. It is mostly things that don't affect my day to day that I just don't think about because they don't bother me. I think it is pretty normal for anyone to do that.

I do this constantly. I usually blame my fibromyalgia brain fog for it. Even though that probably isn't the true cause.

Yes, ADHD and Autism both have symptoms of Introception issues meaning you can have issues feeling your internal senses sometimes until reminded of them. This could include not feeling/processing or remembering symptoms of other conditions or really basic stuff like hunger, thirst, pain, urge to use the bathroom, ect. Frequently for me I do still obviously feel that there is issue and emotionally react to it but I don't process the source of my problem or sometimes cant process logically that I'm even having one until someone asks me what's wrong and I go down a checklist and realize I've been in excruciating pain for two hours and haven't eaten all day lol

WOW!That made a lot of things I have done all my life, for no apparent reason, make sense! I would have never thought of it in that way. Thank you!

It's so crazy how our brains literally can forget to drink water and eat like we just go about life forgetting stuff. So glad we are alive because my goodness it's like we use are brains just stuff is missing or we just use that part of our brain so we end up forgetting stuff.

of course! I didn't even notice it was an issue until I got my current dog and he started alerting at me several times a day to go into the bathroom and every time I got there I realized I needed it and I no longer ever had to *rush* to the bathroom. Same with him reminding me to eat, eventually I looked into it but it took hours of internet research to connect it back to ADHD and when I finally did it was all scholarly research stuff and one very small article for parents of ADHD children that was ridiculously hard to find so I figured it was under talked about. I think there's more online resources about it surrounding Autism.

so much is not talked about enough! It would help so many people if it was.
