Getting a Doctor to Take My Conditions Seriously

how do I get a new doctor to take my conditions seriously? I've struggled with this constantly, as a young female presenting person.

Can you help? Connect today

Do research on conditions and symptoms and treatments… print it out or take notes. Take it to the dr and bug them. They work for YOU! Keep asking until you get answers! 🤗 🙏

I actually do that already! The research and print outs and everything! ☺️☺️☺️ Glad to see I'm not the only one lol, usually I've just gave up after trying a time or two, but you're 💯 I need to be persistent if I want anything done

Get a new doctor. You shouldn't have to coax them into taking you seriously. They should be protective with your symptoms and get you to the necessary specialists for proper testing and treatment.

I get why you say this, but that's sadly not feasible for everyone to do. I'd totally agree if it was though! I'm currently stuck with a doctor I don't really like due to how he ends up making me feel after most appointments, but it's the only doctor anywhere close who prescribes what I need who is in network for me, so I'm stuck with him for now.

Was this intended to be to me? If so, don't worry. It's just a battle that I have to fight for now. It won't be forever.

funny/sad story: I had an amazing doctor in my preteen-teen years, she 100% took me seriously and treated me like an actual human suffering and in pain. She advocated for me to my insurance when they tried denying my morphine patches, because I struggled with pills at the time (swallowing issues at the time) but then I moved away for a few months and when I came back to her office she was gone, and the replacement doctor cut me off my pain meds "cold turkey" as he felt that I was a "pill seeker" and "too young" to have the health/pain issues that I had. Sorry sir that I was dealt a poor hand with multiple genetic conditions plus injuries that caused me a lifetime of pain and limited mobility. Obviously I searched far and wide for her over the years and once I finally found her, I was unable to schedule an appointment because of my lovely insurance not accepting her despite them initially saying she was in network. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Try having someone go with you when you first talk to the Doctor

I will definitely have to do that, I'll try getting my husband and/or mom to come with me. Mom would be best as we both have identical medical history.

if only it was that simple. Having Medicaid causes my list of potential doctors (that not only accept Medicaid BUT ALSO are accepting new patients 😪) to shrink from Hundreds to 3. I also must add, that this is in a metropolitan area too, just in a very conservative and "country" city. Thankfully I will be moving to a different state in the next week, so even though I have to start from square one again with finding doctors and all that jazz... I've at least heard great things from friends that live in that area.
