Gluten-free diet for fibromyalgia: Does it work?

So, I’m curious to hear your experiences. My mom (who I recently told about my fibro diagnosis) has looked at a couple of books that have said that eating no gluten helps reduce symptoms for people with fibro. I guess that I just feel skeptical…has that been the case for anyone?

My fibro trigger is dairy. I think the key is to avoid stuff that is highly inflamitory to your system. For some people, going gluten-free does them no good. Learn what works for you.

This is true for some people, however you want to be careful when tryin to cut things out of your diet, especially gluten, because even if it wasn’t causing your flare ups or increase in symptoms, you may find it hard to reintroduce it to your diet after cutting it out. You can experience many negative symptoms from this and have to cut gluten out entirely, even if it wasn’t the cause of inflammation for you. This is the advice my doctor gave me, and I’d suggest asking yours, and bring up both sides and just ask their opinion and if they’ve had a patient try it before and what they recommend.

For me cutting out gluten, dairy, corn, meat, and processed sugars and dyes has been helpful. But what I did was I worked with my gastro and allergist to do testing to find out what I am sensitive to.

The most recent research has shown that it is highly effective for some people and makes others very sick. I’d consult an allergist and a dietician experienced with fibro patients before making any huge changes.
