Help with an Oral Fixation Addiction

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing good. On today’s adventure of my life I need help with an oral fixation. I’m almost literally addicted to gum and it’s gotten so bad to the point where I can’t resist buying a new pack if I don’t have a piece on me. It’s destroying my teeth and it’s been a bad habit of mine for about 10+ years now. Any suggestions are much appreciated and my inbox is always open.

There's always "Chewelry" if that option appeals to you; I used to have a set of necklaces with chewy lego on them, for my boys & I. We've since lost them, but I liked them while we had them! 😁

Hey at least it’s not cigarettes!! I feel you. I sucked my thumb WAY older than I should have because of the same thing. I’ve heard toothpicks help? Just like having something in your mouth. Also I thought sugar free gum was fine for teeth??

sugar free gum isn’t GOOD for your teeth but it also isn’t that bad. It is just a different kind of sweetener so EVENTUALLY with enough of it you will start to get dental issues 🥲💔

it’s not the sugar or anything just the wear and tear on my teeth. I need to get a custom 400 dollar mouth guard because I grind my teeth and they are extremely worn down.

Tell me about it my oral stim is I LOVE to eat rock candy. ROCK CANDY!! Man those periods really hurt my teeth lol my enamel is basically gone. Chewelry did help me a lot, but so did switching to things that had a similar feeling to me helped. I started eating the really sweet crunchy fruits, I like how grapes pop in my mouth now cause of it.

Telling myself I don’t need it. I just want it. These sentences have really helped me. 🙂

You know what’s good? Chocolate/cocoa roasted almonds!! I guess you shouldn’t eat that many.. but they’re pretty healthy honestly and they taste sooo good!

xylitol is an artificial sweetener that doesn’t have decaying sugars, some studies show it’s actually good for your teeth because it increases saliva which kills bacteria without feed tooth decay. trident vibes is my preferred gum oral stimming Other than that I recommend chewlery. you can buy teething beads online, they’re bright colors and look inconspicuous, if you’re worried about being embarrassed

Baby teething toys or pacifiers work well in my experience pros: good chew and also long lasting cons: need sterilised often bc dirty Crunchy veggies like raw carrot work for me too depending on the type of stim I want
