Newly Diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, Seeking Advice

I was just diagnosed yesterday with Autism and ADHD. I've had my strong suspicions about the autism but the ADHD was very surprising! Having done some research, I already feel a lot lighter and more understanding of myself! Do any fellow AuDHDers have a good place to continue my research on ADHD and the intersection of it with Autism specifically? Thank you!

I was diagnosed a week ago after ten years of the doctor telling me I was just weird. So glad you have gotten diagnosed so you can get the help that you need.💓

Welcome to the community. From what Ive found there is a lot of overlap with other conditions with neurodiversity in general. Some authors that have some great work on this are Devon Price who is a autistic psychologist and author of Unmasking Autism. Another text that could be interesting to you might be Jenara Nerenberg's book called Divergent Mind. That explores the differences but also in presentations between Male and female sexes, and why female/afab people are under diagnosed or late diagnoses. I have access to both of these Audiobooks through my library if thats more your vibe. Devon Price also has a great video conversation with The spiral lab (two other autistics).

If you don’t mind me asking, how was the process of getting diagnosed for you? I’ve been thinking about trying to get diagnosed but I know it can be expensive and I’ve heard lots of horror stories

I’ve heard that if one has OCPD and ADHD, they’re very likely to also have Autism. There are studies on it.

I don't have ADHD, but I was really relieved to get my diagnosis for ASD because it helped me navigate different tools that I could use in day to day life; I would definitely encourage the research because you never know what you could find that'll be more helpful for you 🙂
