Frustrated with Insurance and Medical Procedures

I'm just a little frustrated. I'm supposed to get a laproscopy done but my insurance won't cover it unless I do the Mirena iud for 6 months. I've been totally against having an iud but am going to get it tomorrow. Anybody else deal with this? How did the Mirena effect you?

I have never had an iud I refuse to get one. Why will your insurance not cover it without an iud why not a different birth control? I had a friend who had an iud and it kept falling out but it wasn't painful

I'm on state insurance so I'm guessing the want to go with the cheaper option first.

I have the Mirena! I'm on my second one and I've had it for 7 or 8 years altogether. It's absurd that your insurance won't cover a lap unless you have the IUD in for 6 months. It's not like the IUD is going to fix your endometriosis if you have it. The only "treatment" is to get the endo lesions removed, and it's not a cure or even a permanent thing.

Yes. I know but apparently it helps the heavy bleeding associated. They couldn't get they iud in anyways because my cervix wouldn't open. I have to reschedule and use misoprostol before going in next time.

I’ve never had an IUD because I have the Nexplanon implant, but I also had a lot of trouble with my insurance when I was trying to get my diagnosis, so I want to let you know that it might help to write an appeal for your insurance company to see if they’ll change it and also just to offer my support. I have the mirena. When I was first diagnosed with endometriosis my doctor suggested to insert it to help control my heavy bleeding. It did help though I still have pain. Maybe in the future I'll also consider to do laproscopic surgery but for now it is good enough for me and I prefer taking NSAID's during my period than going through surgery.

Unfortunately nsaids hardly touch the pain. Even morphine hardly touches the pain.
